Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded annually for entry to Years 3 - 7 to children showing academic potential.

The value of the awards range from 10% to 100% of the basic school fees, subject to a child's potential and an assessment of financial needs. Scholarships are tenable, subject to satisfactory progress, until the pupil leaves Holmewood.

The scholarship assessments take place on a Saturday morning at the end of February/beginning of March. We advertise the date in the local press a few weeks in advance and will send out application forms on request. We are happy to assess all applicants but stress that successful applicants will be those who are doing exceptionally well in their current schools.

Following the assessment tests we rank the candidates in order of merit. The parents of those children we deem worthy of an award are then invited to fill in a bursarial form and submit tax returns so that we can allocate the pot of funds available in the fairest way possible. Financial information submitted by parents is treated with the utmost confidence. Decisions regarding the level of award offered are made by the Bursary Committee (the Headmaster, the Chairman of the Governors and the Bursar).

Please note:

  1. Scholarships are not awarded to children currently in the Pre-Preparatory department of Holmewood House.
  2. We are particularly keen to give bright children in State primary schools the chance to attend Holmewood House.

Other awards are also available for entry to Year 5 and above to children showing talent in Sport, Music, Drama and Art. These are assessed separately. All candidates for these awards must attend the assessments for the academic scholarships as, to be successful, candidates but also be of an adequate academic standard.

Bursaries

Current parents who find themselves in temporary financial difficulties may be eligible for a bursary. These are also means tested and subject to availability of funds. They are reviewed annually. Decisions regarding applications for bursaries are made by the Bursary Committee (the Headmaster, the Chairman of the Governors and the Bursar).

"The personal development of the pupils is outstanding."
