Boarding

Following a complete refurbishment of the dormitories, shower rooms, WCs, Common Rooms and Games Room, Boarding at Holmewood is back with a vengeance and here to stay! With current capacity for 14 girls and 19 boys, with the plan to increase to 22 and 27 respectively, Holmewood boarders can experience the fun and convenience of staying at school during the week, or for just a few nights, in modern, bright, clean and welcoming surroundings within the original 19th Century Mansion House.

With so many activities happening in the evenings, Holmewood is the place to be (sorry, Mum and Dad!) Whether it be Swimming, Squash, Gym, Cricket, Scouts, Cubs, Tech, Art or simply free time to spend with friends roaming the superb grounds, playing in the Sports Hall, playing in the Games Room, chilling with friends in the Common Rooms or improving Air Hockey, Table Football, Pool, Wii and Playstation skills, staying at school is fun. Boarders between the ages of 6 and 13 regularly board during the week, either for 5, 4 or 3 nights. Remaining capacity is filled by those who board one night every week, Friday night being particularly popular.

Boarding is not simply fun but a great experience and a superb preparation for life after Holmewood, whether this be at a Boarding or a Day Senior School. With more parents opting for the Boarding choice, it is absolutely vital that children are prepared for life away from home before they go at the end of Year 8. Without fail, those who have boarded at Holmewood settle into their new Senior boarding schools way better than those who never did.

Why Board?

Do not take our word for it, hear what the children themselves have to say:

  • It’s fun to be at school with friends.
  • It means we can stay in bed longer in the mornings.
  • We can get our Prep done and then have free time without Mummy pestering us about it.
  • It makes us appreciate it more when we go home.
  • It means we do not have to rush in the mornings.
  • The dorms are so lovely.
  • Everything is so new.
  • Mummy can spend more time with my younger brother and sister while I have great fun with my friends.
  • We can do so many cool things.
  • It helps prepare me for Senior school.
  • The bed is more comfortable than mine.
  • Breakfast is delicious.
  • We get to have Tuck on Wednesdays.
  • It helps to make me independent.
  • It helps me to be organised and more responsible.
  • I love it!

Holmewood: Truly a holme from home!
